Vice President, July 2026 to June 2028:

Paul Gerber , CSC, CSI, SCIP

I graduated with a Diploma of Architectural Technology (Co-Op) from Fanshawe College of Applied Arts and Technology in 1990. My experience gained from the consulting, owner and contracting sides of business gives me a great perspective of the Architectural/Engineering/Construction industry overall.

I have been a member of SCIP since 2014 when I attended CONSTRUCT in Nashville and handed John Carter $50 in cash as it seemed much easier than having to go to the bank and get an American dollar bank draft (which probably would have cost me half that much) and the rest is history. I also attended SCIP Conferences in Baltimore (2014), Providence (2017) and Long Beach (2018). I attended again last year in Louisville, met lots of new people and reconnected with old friends and colleagues. I look forward to seeing everyone again this May in St. Louis.

My service to industry-related associations, however, began in 2010 with Construction Specifications Canada and a member of the Grand Valley Chapter that is just west of Toronto. Shortly after joining, I was approached by a Trusted Advisor to become part of the Grand Valley Transition Team tasked with revitalizing a stagnant Chapter. In 2011, the Transition Team was awarded the Program Directors Award for Chapter Development and in 2015 we won the Lloyd Boddy Chapter of the Year while being one of the smallest CSC Chapters.

But it was my attendance at the CSC Conference in 2012 in Ottawa that exposed me to the “big picture” of the association after a fairly tumultuous program year with controversies. It was then I decided I wanted to become more involved and try to affect some change and growth. After the Conference I put my name forward for Chapter Director and joined the Board of Directors for the 2013/2014 Program Year. In 2014, after serving the required two year term as Chapter Director, I was nominated and acclaimed for CSC’s 4th Vice President for the 2015/2015 Program Year. This began a six year journey through the Executive Council, culminating in my year as President for the 2018/2019 and Immediate Past President for the 2019/2020 Program Years.

I have continued my involvement with CSC at the Chapter level after stepping off the national stage with the Grand Valley Chapter and the with the London Chapter in 2023. Helping plan monthly technical presentations, social events and the Chapter golf tournament. In 2024 and 2025 I was also one of two instructors for the Principles in Construction Documentation (PCD) which is CSC’s equivalent to the CDT. I lead our past London Chapter Director’s successful campaign to become CSC’s 4th Vice President, which he won for the 2025/2026 Program Year. Last June, I was voted to become the London Chapter Director to represent the Chapter at the Board of Directors and begin the process of mentoring my successor in a Chapter that has also gone through a revitalization process, with newer members of the Chapter Executive without great knowledge of how CSC operates at the national level.

In fall of 2024 I responded to two Calls for Volunteers and joined the SCIP Strategic Planning Task Team and the By-Law Review Task Team. My tenure on CSC’s Executive Council included the development of their Strategic Plan (which remains a living document that has evolved and continues to guide the association to this day) and significant changes to their by-laws due to revised legislation of the Not-for-Profit Corporations Act of Canada. It was an experience that opened my eyes to some of the challenges that SCIP has been dealing with and a look into what is planned/being planned.

It was this experience and discussions with some long time SCIP members and friends that galvanized my decision to pursue a seat on the SCIP Board as the next Director and (hopefully) the first international member to serve on the Board. Based on my volunteer experience listed above and my 36 years in the AECO community, I am excited by the possibility of helping guide SCIP to become a better version of what it is today. Hopefully I can count your support to do just that.
